IBF/WBA light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs) and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) met today in a press conference in New York to promote their upcoming November 8th unification fight at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. Hopkins did most of the talking. Kovalev spoke briefly saying very little other than that he would leave the promotional work to Hopkins because he’s not a big talker. He is a fighter.
“After I whop Kovalev systematically, I don’t want to be on nobody’s pound-for-pound list because that will make me a human,” Hopkins said in today’s press conference in New York. You’re going to see an artist on November 8th. You’re going to witness Louie Armstrong. Watch the ageless one take care of business, said Hopkins. During the face-off, Hopkins appeared to trash talk Kovalev and put his face next to his. Kovalev reached up with his arms as if to push Hopkins away, but Hopkins said something to him calm him down. Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya said “I believe this is just the beginning for Bernard Hopkins.” Hopkins is an athletic he exercises everyday, knows when to rest, does not drink or smoke he is very well prepared for this fight.
“I respect Bernard Hopkins for taking this fight,” said the 31- year-old Kovalev. “When I came to America, it was my dream to fight the best and now I am, I have my chance, He says he is an alien. He will punch, I will punch, then we see who is gonna go to Mars.
“These fights mean more to me because I am older,” said Hopkins. “I am a proud man and never take things for granted in anything in my life. More importantly I want to become the spokesperson for the 40 and older crowd, inspiring people to believe that no matter what age they are, they can be healthy and active and saver their lives”.
