The red carpet premiere of the film Bessie was held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In this movie as lead actress is Oscar® nominee Queen Latifah as Bessie Smith. The film also stars Michael Kenneth Williams, Khandi Alexander, Mike Epps, Tory Kittles, Tika Sumpter, Charles S. Dutton, Oscar® winner Mo’Nique and more. This film is special in many ways and one of the reasons why is because it was 22 years in the making and HBO films embraced this project until its full completion.

I had the privilege of attending and seeing stars walk the runway like Estelle, Mary J. Blige and others that although did not stop for interviews all came to support this project. I interviewed Queen Latifah who looked stunning with a non-sleeve black suit the blazer part of the suit was long and made her look really stylish. Latifah was very approachable and spoke to all the press and you can clearly see how elated she was that this project was completed and on May 16th at 8pm will air on HBO.

Tika Sumpter was super happy to talk about her role of ‘Lucille’ and what it meant to her to be part of this production. She was wearing a one piece lace bodysuit which fit her slim body really nicely. She was super sweet and friendly with all the attendees. My ultimate favorite was Mo’nique she has a beautiful personality and positive vibe that just lights up the room. She played the role of “Ma Rainey” in Bessie and she expressed how happy she is to see Queen Latifah evolve from the start of her career to the woman she is today. She also shared a lot about her role and a special message to all the curvy girls. Take a look at the on camera interviews below.
