Ivana Trump once said that she felt violated by her husband Donald Trump when the two were married, and those words are back to bite the Trump party in the rear.
According to Mail Online, an article in the Daily Beast rehashed an old story about Donald and Ivana’s marriage, bringing some controversial material to the table once again. The timing, of course, is just about perfect since Trump recently announced that he is running for president. The report indicates that Ivana once said that her husband got angry with her and “raped” her, but she then backtracked and said that it wasn’t “rape” in a criminal sense, but more that she felt “violated” by Donald Trump at the time.
Trump’s team was quick to respond to the story.
“This is an event that has been widely reported on in the past, it is old news and it never happened,” said a Trump spokesperson.
News that Ivana Trump was violated by Donald Trump during their marriage came out in the 1993 book, Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump. Ivana Trump reportedly made the comments during the couple’s divorce proceedings in 1989.
According to CNN, a top adviser to Trump made some controversial comments following the Daily Beast’s story, and he has also released a statement. Upon reading the news,Michael Cohen said that a person “cannot rape their spouse,” and while he may have been trying to defend Donald Trump and debunk the Daily Beast’s story, he actually created quite the firestorm for Mr. Trump and for himself.
His apology is below.
“As an attorney, husband and father there are many injustices that offend me but nothing more than charges of rape or racism. They hit me at my core. Rarely am I surprised by the press, but the gall of this particular reporter to make such a reprehensible and false allegation against Mr. Trump truly stunned me. In my moment of shock and anger, I made an inarticulate comment – which I do not believe — and which I apologize for entirely,” Cohen said in a statement to CNN.
Trying to say the Ivana Trump violated story wasn’t legit got Cohen in bigger trouble, and caused additional problems for Donald Trump and his campaign.
“Mr. Trump didn’t know of his comments but disagrees with them,” Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. He also said that the campaign has “distanced itself” from Cohen. It is unknown if Donald Trump has any plans to fire Cohen.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Ivana Trump has already spoken out against the story, releasing a statement of her own.
“I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald. The story is totally without merit. Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of. I have nothing but fondness for Donald and wish him the best of luck on his campaign. Incidentally, I think he would make an incredible president.”
