Daddy Yankee, the king of urban music, was recognized with a star on the Puerto Rico Walk of Fame, in a ceremony that was held yesterday afternoon on the sidewalk of Ventana al Mar, in Condado.
He is the Latin artist heard the most worldwide in the platform Spotify with more than 20 million listeners a month. The artist was recently recognized by ASCAP in Puerto Rico with the “Artist and Composer of the Year” award and his songs “Andas En Mi Cabeza” and “Shaky Shaky” became the two most listened urban songs in Latin music. The same success is happening with his new single “Hula Hoop” in collaboration with the world-wide movement of Zumba.
“For me it is a true honor that urban music has a space on the Puerto Rico Walk of Fame through me. I am very grateful,” said the renowned artist.
Santiago Villar, chairman of the Board of Directors and founder of the Puerto Rico Walk of Fame Inc., invited people to attend Daddy Yankee’s star unveiling ceremony, who is responsible for making the urban genre known around the world, when his successful song “Gasolina” debuted in 2004.
“We are very pleased to have Daddy Yankee on the Walk of Fame, he is an artist who has taken the name of Puerto Rico around the world with his music. It is great news that he accepted our invitation to receive his star,” said Villar.
